Graphics Card Compatibility Information

Your graphics card is probably the most important part of your There experience; without the right graphics card, you will not be able to fully experience and enjoy There.

If you don't know what kind of graphics card you have, here's how to find out:
  • Open your "Control Panel"
  • Double-click on the "System" icon
  • Select the "Hardware" tab (or the hardware section)
  • Select the "Device Manager"
  • From the list of devices, click on the "+" sign next to "Display Adapters"
  • The item listed inside of "Display Adapters" is your graphics card. Double-click on it to see what card you have

We currently support any card with DirectX 8.0 (or later) support. Below is a list of some of the specific cards that we support (or cards that contain the following graphics chips). Some of these cards require that you have a faster processor.

ATI RADEON/Mobility RADEON
This includes any ATI RADEON or Mobility RADEON with 32 MB of video memory or more.

NVIDIA nForce Integrated Graphics
This includes any NVIDIA nForce integrated graphics chipset.

Any NVIDIA GeForce or Quadro
This includes any NVIDIA GeForce with 32 MB of video memory or more, and any NVIDIA Quadro.

NVIDIA TNT2
This includes TNT2, TNT2 M64, TNT2 Pro, or TNT2 Ultra. All require 32 MB of video memory or more.

Intel Extreme 3D Graphics with DDR RAM
This includes Pentium-M notebooks and any Intel i830 and up.

Please note that if you have an Intel "on-board" graphics chipset that we do not support, you can install a supported graphics card into an AGP slot to run There, if your computer has one.

Other Cards We Support
FireGL (later models, based on Radeon chips), Matrox (Parhelia and later), 3DLabs (Wildcat and later).

Nearly all graphics cards contain chips that are manufactured by one of a handful of companies (e.g., ATI and NVIDIA). Sometimes a computer manufacturer, like Dell or Gateway, will brand their graphics card with its own in-house name, even though it contains a chip made by another manufacturer. To find out what graphics chip your card contains, you could try contacting the vendor where you purchased your computer.

We know this information is confusing. Our installer does check the kind of card that you have. It also checks the drivers on your card and tells you if they are out of date.
